STEELEHORSE CAMPS
Learn, progress and build confidence
in a supportive environment
Camps offer a deeper learning experience than a clinic or single lesson. Throughout our camps, you’ll build confidence, knowledge and trust with your horse through a blend of theory, groundwork, practical riding and fun challenges — all within a supportive, like-minded group! Our camps are designed to help you break barriers, try new things and leave inspired.

Cattle Camps

A unique camp dedicated to practising the cattle phase of Working Equitation — a rare chance to work cattle in a controlled, supportive environment. Open to all levels, including those completely new to cattle work or WE. Learn to build timing, precision and confidence at your own pace.

Confidence Camps

Our most popular camp for riders who want to rebuild trust, overcome blocks and strengthen their relationship with their horse. Through theory, simulation exercises, groundwork and ridden work, we explore confidence from the horse and rider perspective — with plenty of fun, support and breakthroughs along the way.
WORKING EQUITATION CATTLE CAMPS
Be a cowboy for the weekend — no western tack required!
Working Equitation is a four-phase discipline designed to create a versatile, brave and intelligent farm horse. While most riders only get to experience the dressage, obstacle and speed elements, the cattle phase is where everything comes together — accuracy, teamwork, timing and bravery.
Our Cattle Camp is the perfect introduction to this exciting discipline. Across the weekend, you’ll develop confidence around cattle, learn how to control pace and direction, practise accuracy over obstacles and experience the thrill of working as a team. It’s fun, educational and surprisingly addictive.

What You'll Do:
Over the course of the weekend, riders and horses are introduced to cattle in a calm, controlled and progressive environment. We begin by familiarising the horses with the herd from a comfortable distance, allowing them time to assess, breathe and understand before we ask them to engage more actively. From there, we start to explore how to influence the movement of the cattle using body language, position, pace and timing.
Once horse and rider feel comfortable, we introduce the penning exercises — the iconic “fourth phase” of Working Equitation that so few riders ever get the chance to try. Penning is where teamwork becomes essential, and it’s often where riders realise just how accurate their aids are (or aren’t!) in real time. It’s challenging in the best way, and hugely educational for both the horse and the rider.
Across the weekend there’s also an opportunity to explore the speed phase elements, allowing those who wish to build rhythm, responsiveness and decision-making under light pressure. Everything is done at your own pace; some riders choose to keep things slow and methodical, while others enjoy testing their agility and timing a little more boldly. Both are welcome — the aim is progress, not perfection.
Throughout the camp, obstacles typically used in Working Equitation are incorporated to help develop accuracy, suppleness and focus, adding another layer of learning and fun to the experience. The combination of cattle work and obstacles gives riders a clearer sense of their horse’s responsiveness, and offers horses an opportunity to problem-solve in a way that builds confidence rather than tension.
And because cattle camp is, at its heart, an adventure, there’s always space for laughter, curiosity and the sheer novelty of doing something most riders never get the chance to try. Even the horses enjoy it!

CONFIDENCE CAMPS
Confidence Camp is designed for riders who love their horses but feel held back by fear, self-doubt or “what ifs.” Whether it’s getting on, cantering, jumping, falling, hacking or performing, confidence is deeply personal — and often misunderstood. At this camp, we create a safe, encouraging space to rebuild trust, learn new tools and rediscover the joy of riding.

Who It's For:

Confidence Camp is for riders who:
-
Used to be braver but lost confidence over time
-
Have experienced a setback or fall
-
Have a specific fear (cantering, jumping, hacking, mounting, etc.)
-
Struggle with overthinking or worst-case scenarios
-
Want to strengthen the partnership with their horse
-
Want a supportive, zero-judgement environment

Why It Works:

Confidence isn’t just in your body — it’s in your mind.
When you understand how fear functions, and have techniques to work through it, everything becomes more achievable. We break things into small, bite-sized steps so success becomes inevitable, not overwhelming.

What You'll Do:
Across the weekend, we blend theory, simulation and ridden work to help riders rebuild confidence from the ground up. We start by exploring how confidence functions in both humans and horses — how fear develops, how it can get stuck, and how we can gently rewire our reactions through understanding instead of pressure. This sets the foundation for everything that follows.

From there, we begin introducing controlled, achievable challenges. One of the most popular parts of the camp is our learning-to-fall session, where riders practise safe falling techniques using a wooden horse, crash mats and step-by-step progressions. For many people, falling is the core fear beneath everything else — so by demystifying it and making it safe (and even fun), we take away much of its power.

On the ground, we use groundwork and horsemanship exercises to strengthen communication and trust between horse and rider. Many confidence issues dissolve once the horse becomes softer, clearer and more responsive — and once the rider feels they have tools to influence situations safely.

Under saddle, we introduce working equitation obstacles, simple patterns and formation riding. These offer focus and direction, shifting attention away from the “what ifs” and towards achievable tasks that naturally build confidence. Group hacks and water training further expand riders’ comfort zones in a supportive environment, always at a speed and level that feels appropriate to each partnership.

Saturday evening usually features a demonstration from Freddy and Holly, giving riders a chance to learn through observation, ask questions and see horsemanship principles in practice. It’s relaxed, informative and often full of “lightbulb” moments.

What makes Confidence Camp special is not just the structure of the training, but the atmosphere around it. Riders support one another, celebrate breakthroughs and realise they’re not the only ones who feel the way they do. By the end of the weekend, nearly everyone has achieved something they didn’t think they could do — whether that’s cantering for the first time in years, mounting without worry, jumping again, or simply laughing rather than panicking at the idea of falling.
